HOSTED BY TAS_TAIPEI IGEM TEAM

INTRODUCTION

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of seventeen goals that the United Nations aim to achieve by 2030. These universal goals address the urgent environmental, political and economic challenges in all countries to achieve a better future for all. SDGs were first introduced into the iGEM community in 2019 by the Costa Rica, TAS_Taipei, and Tuebingen team with the intent for all iGEM teams to incorporate SDGs into their projects. Through social media, the teams advertised SDGs within the iGEM community by nominating each other to target specific goals in their projects. These participating teams then came together in a conference to share how they tackled the goals in their project.

This year, the 2021 TAS_Taipei iGEM team’s goal is to take the SDG impact one step further by focusing on action on top of promotion. Because SDGs are universal goals, we do not plan to only focus on the relevance of SDGs to an individual team, but rather challenge teams to target these goals on a global level by making tasks for one another. Each teams’ tasks will target specific subgoals for one or more SDGs. With the collaboration of completing tasks across different continents, we will be targeting SDGs on a global scale which is in direct support of SDG #17: Partnerships for the Goals.

On September 18th, 2021, we will hold a conference with all participating teams and discuss how we have tackled the SDGs.

We hope that you can join us in spreading awareness as well as taking action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
